Torre Vado: sunset excursion to Punta Ristola

EXCURSION TO THE SUNSET

Departing at 5:30 p.m. from the Port of Torre Vado, the navigation to Leuca begins. Our staff will explain on each excursion the history of the tower and the itinerary that will be taken.
As we leave the port, we pause to point out to guests how the landscape gradually changes as we go toward Leuca, leaving the sandy beach to find the shallow rocks gradually growing.
Passing through Marina di San Gregorio we slow down to let guests admire the splendid villa, once a coastal tower, rich in history, where a small but important port stood in the Messapian age.
Passing the marina of Felloniche, the last small stretch of sand on the Ionian side, we reach the first cave, Grotta del Drago.
Entering by boat will show the two peculiar rocks that give their name to this wonder of nature whose walls are colored by iron, copper and zinc minerals.
Passing Punta Marchieddhu, where the ruins of a tower stand, you will reach the small gulf that encloses the countless caves.
 
Here you will visit :
 - Grotta della Stalla, an ancient shelter for fishermen;
 - Cave of the Giants, in which bones of a prehistoric elephant have been found;
 - Cave of the Three Doors, inside from which there are 2 small caves, Tweety and Cave of the Child, very important because the bones of a child's skull from the Neolithic age were found inside;
- River Cave, bed of an ancient river of karst origin.
 
After visiting the last cave on the Ionian side, the majestic Leuca Marina, with its imposing Greek-Arabic style villas, monumental waterfall, lighthouse and sanctuary, the trip reaches Punta Ristola.
